Documentation of the keel

After the documentation of all barrels was completed at the end of last week, the focus is now entirely on the ship timbers. In addition to the floor timbers and the futtocks from the frames, the keel is also on the agenda. The photo shows the front part of the keel, which makes a 45° bend upwards. This is where the stem used to be. Furthermore, trapezoidal recesses for iron bands can be seen, which fastened another piece of wood that reinforced the keel in the bow area. Lengthwise there is a groove, which served to accommodate the first row of planks.
