Scanning the coin

The coin, hidden under the sternpost as a lucky charm, poses a challenge to archaeologists. It is so badly corroded and deformed that neither the "numeral" nor the "head" are recognisable.

Only modern documentation methods can help. After the coin had already been to the dentist to be x-rayed, it was scanned today with an Artec Micro Scanner, which can sense objects in the hundredth of a millimetre range.
