Rudder blade

Underneath the broken off ship's side directly next to the stern this over 5 m long rudder blade was dicovered. It is composed of two parts that are held together with iron bands. I In the upper end there was a recess to accommodate the tiller.

The impressive length of the rudder gives an idea of the former size of the merchant ship: the stern of which will have extended to at least 5 meters.
