Mast shoe exposed

After all barrels were lifted out of the hull of the wreck, work continued on exposing the inner planking.. In addition, the so-called keelson came to light, which lies on top of the frames for longitudinal reinforcement of the ship. About midships, the archaeologists encountered a mast shoe, which was embedded in the keelson. It served to hold the main mast. In the mast shoe there is also a hole that led to the bilge, allowing the drainage of water that had entered.
